Review #106 // Treasure Hunt – Shira Glassman

Treasure Hunt

The Empress sends two of her Imperial Guards to steal some of a dragon’s treasure. The guards doubt the dragon’s existence though and instead use their time alone to drink and fool around.

Why this novella?: I wanted to start reading some more of Shira Glassman’s stuff before heading off to her Mangoverse.

I read Treasure Hunt while in a major slump, in hopes that it would inspire me to get reading again. While it didn’t really do what I was hoping, I finished it so quickly that I can’t help but wish there was more. What happens after the novella ends? There’s so many ways this could go that I’m nearly forgetting where the story ends and where my thoughts (headcanons?) end.

While it was an odd perspective at first, reading some (great) smut through the eyes of a dragon was both hilarious and weird. The dragon would describe things weirdly, like they didn’t know what a dick was, but then the scene would be described in expert detail, so it was a little more than conflicting. Although, I really did enjoy the dragon as a character. Glassman introduces lovable characters in lovable ways, and seems to have a knack for the cute themes. That’s why I was actually a little surprised when hearing that this had a D/s pairing and had explicit sex scenes.

That’s goes to say, though, that Glassman also has a knack for writing explicit scenes. I always feel awkward when talking about the sex scenes in books, but it was more than the focus of this book. It was hot, let me just say that, if not weird by being narrated by a dragon.

Final Rating: ★★★★☆

Overall?

It was a satisfying, enjoyable read that is a nice niche find. While I thought the narrator was a little weird, I really enjoyed their character, and Vasily and Aleksei (the guards) were also enjoyable to read.

Would I Recommend?

If you like fantasy with amusing characters and a dash of hot sex, sure! There’s also dragons that are too innocent to understand what a dick is, and that literally was so hilarious I had to stop reading to wipe the tears from my eyes.
