We all have those books that we were SO excited to start for one reason or another. But . . . then they just didn’t live up to our expectations. And that feelings is just so, so disappointing.
**These are books that I was personally disappointed with. Just because they’re on my list doesn’t mean that other people can’t like them or see otherwise. Feel free to open discussions with me about these books!
Shadow and Bone – Leigh Bardugo
All I heard about the Grisha Trilogy was how amazing it was and how different. Instead, I found the stereotypical YA girl and love interest, with a bit of abuse thrown in with mediocre writing. Nothing against Bardugo, but I just couldn’t stand this book. (Goodreads)
TEN – Gretchen McNeil
I loved Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, and when I heard that this book was based off of it, I was ecstatic. And I read that there was a bipolar character too!
And then I actually read it. Offensive and cheap writing, as well as a disappointing ending. Well, that was a waste of time. (Goodreads)
This is Where it Ends – Marieke Nijkamp
The message this book is trying to send it important. Especially with it being about school shootings in this recent world, this book needs to be read. Personally, though, I found the writing, characters, and execution a disappointment.
The Knife of Never Letting Go – Patrick Ness
The premise was so interesting, and the writing and characters were decent. But I just couldn’t stand the constant and overbearing use of slang in this book. I found it more annoying than enhancing, and it ruined the entire book for me.
Solitaire – Alice Oseman
This book is everything it promises not to be. Yes, it is a love story. Yes, it’s cliche. Yes, this book felt so fake that I just couldn’t stand it. Damn, was this just so disappointing.
The Shining – Stephen King
I loved the movie, and was so excited to finally start reading the book. Even though I ended up preferring the book ending to the movie ending, the book was just long-winded and boring that I just couldn’t keep my attention on it.
I was so super excited about Truthwitch but it was all over the place and wasn’t what I was expecting at all. Recently Wintersong left me down. It was very slow and nothing happened. I personally enjoyed Shadow and Bone, but the Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom duology was much, much better.
All I’ve been hearing about Truthwitch and Wintersong is how amazing they are! That’s disappointing D:
Interesting list! One book that disappointed me after all the hype was Gone Girl.
See, I enjoyed Gone Girl! It wasn’t what I expected but I still liked it.
